ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari Thursday took serious notice of statement by Sindh Senior Minister for Works and Services, Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza and imposed a ban on all his political activities.
Karachi was on fire with rampant protests and violent incidents in the wake of Mirza’s statement at Mardan House, the residence of ANP leader Shahi Syed. Today’s violence killed 15 people and 40 vehicles were torched.
President Zardari called Mirza at President House and later on banned all his political activities. Earlier, Zulfiqar Mirza issued an apology on a blank paper, which says, “He apologizes if anyone was hurt with his statement.”
Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Wassan expressed no knowledge of the apology.
Meantime, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah said, “Urdu-speaking people are our brothers.”
The interior minister lauded Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain for his appeal to end to protests. SAMAA
