Yes, this is known as modular construction. It is pretty much in vogue these days. Saves a lot of time and hassle and the manufactured items/pods/modules have a greater quality.

It suddenly went out of the market in 1970's after the incident of Ronan heights in UK. Though, the very first building of this kind was built in the 19th century in the UK, known as the Crystal Palace.

It's an old concept, like in vogue EVs today!!!

Speed, quality, aesthetic, and probably the price appears to be much improved.

You can say that, because the EVs got into industrial production in 1930's. But God Knows why the trend did not take off too well? conspiracy = oil companies.

But this prefabricated/modular construction was quite developed in 1970's but the incident of Ronan Heights impeded its progress, as the UK Govt put a ban on modular construction, specially the highrise structures.

So it took a while for the industry to regain momentum after addressing the safety issues. Moreover, the push was mainly because of the rising demand of housing and difficulty of construction in urban areas.

Price is not the main benefit. Speed, quality and aesthetics, definitely are.
