Well when you break it down its not too unreasonable. First you are carrying only 50% the passengers. Then you are burning anywhere from 150 to $200,000 if not more worth of jet fuel, then fuel surcharges, staff pay, airport charges, catering, etc etc which I'm sure have also gone up in price not to mention cost of all the extra precaution and SOPs and then double that because the plane is going to be coming back empty or maybe a handful of FOC passengers like embassy or airline staff.
This is the price you pay for being a fool and traveling when the world is in the middle of a pandemic crisis.
