Pakistan likely to get divorce from rude ally

By ASHRAF JAVED LAHORE As countrys top military commanders and intelligence heads briefed the joint-session of the parliament on Abbotabad debacle in a closed-door sitting on Friday, senior defense officials said Islamabad was most likely to get divorce from his rude ally (US).
A senior official familiar with the developments taking place in the backdrop of the killing of bin Laden said that trust is the key to successful relations. When you lose trust, you may lose relationship. Respectable separation is far better than disregarded relations, he insisted.
Referring to the US mindset depicted in a recent media report titled Obama ordered troops to fight their way out of Pakistan he said: It shows the level of brinkmanship adopted by President Obama. This also shows how quickly the US can turn an ally into an enemy, he warned.
For them, there is hardly any respect for the sovereignty of other countries. In this particular case if Pakistan would have shown any reaction, it might have resulted into a war between Pakistan and the US. We must revisit our policy, the official reiterated.
He also revealed that the political leadership had several viable options under consideration to safeguard its national interest and sovereignty. We cannot keep quiet any more. We have to decide in accordance with the wishes of the people of Pakistan.
The official, who also frequently remains in touch with those who matter in the democratic set-up, said Pakistan had been left with no other option but to revisit its policy. Pakistan has strong democratic set-up right now. So, they (politicians) can convey their point of view to the world comfortably, he added. To a question, he said the in-camera briefing was arranged to share ground realities with the political leadership. It was more than an eye-opener for them. It will help them move in the right direction, he said.
This was the first time that a top official discussed the Pak-US relations as forced-marriage while President Asif Ali Zardari is in Russia to discuss security related strategic issue with his counterpart there. A few days before, Interior Minister Rehman Malik met Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Tehran and King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia and handed over a message from President Asif Zardari to the dignitary. China, countrys time-testing friend, has also assured full support to Islamabad urging the international community to regard Pakistans sacrifices in the war against terror.
The country has lost more than 36,000 people including some 4,000 security officials in recent years in the so-called war against terror but Washington is treating Islamabad like enemy, officials emphasised.
When asked about the inquiry (into Abbotabad incident), he said, it would be up to the political leadership to decide. But in my point of view the report involves some concerns on the implications under international law because the report will become an administrative verdict on the inefficiency and inability of the state institutions.
Such finding will have serious damaging consequences from the point of view of international law. It is important to note the US and other unilateral interventionists are stating that if a state is either unable or unwilling to perform counter terrorism measures, then responsibility to enforce counter terrorism measures shifts to international community or to a single state that is likely to be affected. In such an eventuality unilateral armed action will be justifiable.
The inquiry report (being conducted here) should not, therefore, lead to an authentic documentation of the inability of Pakistani institutions to carry out counter-terrorism measures and operations, he said.
Hours before the top commanders of Pakistan Air Force, Army, and Intelligence agencies were scheduled to brief the political leadership on Abbotabad episode, suicide bombers struck Frontier Constabulary recruits back-to-back in Charsadda, leaving 80 people dead and injuring scores others. The Taliban claimed the responsibility stating they did it to take revenge of the killing of Osama bin Laden, thanks to Washington for escalating propaganda war against Pakistani security establishment and ignoring sacrifices.
The death toll, said to be highest this year, is also bloody reminder of the price being paid by Pakistans security forces in their war against extremism.

This is funny. George Bush had stated, on camera, that US will go to Pakistan if necessary. Obama had stated the same position on camera and no one suggested divorce. Following this incident Obama has again stated, on camera, that US will do it again if other senior Al-Qaeda leadership is in Pakistan.

Lets see if China and Russia can provide protection for Al-Zawahari in Pakistan after the divorce. The key word in this is LIKELY. LOL

I don't think Pakistan can divorce US, because Pakistan will not be entitled for an Alimony (also called maintenance or spousal support) if this happens :)

Yes we need to divorce them but i don't see it happening whilst Zardari is around! I don't think Bush or Obama have ever spoken of invading Pak but they can try!!

The USA will eventually miscalculate the whole thing and be given a proper response!
