UK threatens to ban social networks

The UK has threatened to kill access to social networking websites following the outbreak of, what the authorities have described as, the country's worst unrest in a generation.


Prime Minister David Cameron addressed a statement to the parliament on Thursday, warning to unleash a clampdown on the web-based social outfits, including Facebook, Twitter and Research in Motion, the producer of BlackBerry devices, AFP reported.

He said the government would consider applying the ban against the people, who are suspected of 'inciting violence online.'

The premier cautioned the websites to take more responsibility for their contents.

Unrest has rocked Britain in a scale unprecedented in 30 years following the police's killing of black male Mark Duggan in a shooting spree in the London suburb of Tottenham last Thursday.

The security forces fatally shot the 26-year-old after stopping his minicab to make an arrest as part of a preplanned operation.

Tension erupted on Saturday, when a few hundred people gathered outside a police station in Tottenham to protest the killing.

The protests have spread to major cities like Birmingham, Liverpool, and Bristol.

They came while the pressure on the Britons from economic stagnation has been compounded by deep public spending cuts and tax increases aimed at eliminating a budget deficit that has peaked at more than 10 percent of the GDP.

Scotland Yard has said at least 1,200 people have been arrested for taking part in the public show of outrage.

Cameron's threat, meanwhile, defied the White Hall's claim to being an advocate of human rights and freedom of expression.

Dear anacondaa, freedom, justice, fairness, compassion, brotherhood, progress and prosperity of mankind are god set goals for mankind to achieve peace and none can achieve peace who opposes these goals. Only moving towards these goals can bring about a better world. Moving away from these goals can only make the world a worse place to be in. But destiny of man is in his own hands, for God never helps those who do not help themselves.

So fight is about ending the control of powerful entities on land and its resources, means of production and distribution for benefit of few at the expense of rest of humanity.

Dear wadaich, freedom of expression is fundamental goal of islam without it there is nothing worth living for or dieing for. No freedom means oppression and suppression and that is what gives rise to injustice, unfairness, cruelty, animosity, regression, poverty, ignorance etc etc. It is result of some degree of freedom that we are all expressing ourselves regardless sensibly or senselessly.

The problem is that whatever freedom we have we are mostly not using it sensibly rather we just waste our time rather than knowing our goals or cover up the goals we should stand for. It would be good idea that people join heads and work out better ways to improve our world than conspire against it. The very idea that goals that move humanity forward are eastern or western is wrong, for this light is light of the heavens and the earth ie divine in its origin. Neither eastern nor western. Mankind will only benefit when it is consistent with God, humanity and the real world. No other way can bring that about than the way the quran advises.

Any little freedom brings us opportunities to increase freedom but by doing things that even takes away that little freedom we achieve absolutely nothing good at all. So time for brainstorming and asking some serious questions of ourselves.

Islam does advocate freedom of expression but but not beyond the boundaries defined by Quran and Sunnah. Islam is a "deen" (code of life) not a religion (sum of few rituals). The creator knows better about the creature. So does Allah (SWT); therefore, He (SWT) gave us the manual (Quran) to fulfil the social and spiritual requirements of humans. Since manual for human life is available in 90% of the affairs we (believers) need not decide what to do as Allah (SWT) has already decreed. On the rest of the issues the door of Ijmah/Ijtihad is open. Freedom of expression is one of the most beautiful gifts a human can have if practiced within the boundaries.
